During a career spanning more than 40 years, Dr. Leonard O. Pellicer, Distinguished Professor Emeritus, University of South Carolina, has studied, practiced and written about educational leadership. Over the years, he has held a number of key teaching and leadership roles. He has been a high school teacher and principal, a college professor, department head and dean. In 1985-86 he was a Fulbright Scholar in Southeast Asia where he taught classes at the University of the Philippines and used his experience and expertise to assist in developing programs to train school leaders in that region. From 1992 to 1995, he spent summers in the Republic of South Africa as a member of a team that developed a field-based training program for black principals in the “new South Africa.” Over the years he has written and spoken extensively in the areas of school leadership, instructional leadership and programs for disadvantaged students. Dr. Pellicer has been a consultant to more than 100 school districts, and the author or coauthor of more than 75 publications including: books, book chapters and articles. Two of his books, A Handbook for Teacher Leaders (1995), and Caring Enough to Lead (1999, Second Edition, 2003, Third Edition 2008), have become best sellers and been widely praised in the profession. Now retired, and living in St. Augustine, Florida, the nations oldest city with his wife of fifty plus years, Nancy, Leonard is pursuing his longtime interest in writing fiction. He has written several short stories and recently completed his first novel, Indigo Dreams, for which he is currently seeking an agent.
